ADVERT FOR PUPILLAGE
Sterling Winshaw Solicitors is pleased to announce that it has 1 vacancy for pupillage commencing in September 2020.
The pupillage will be a Chancery based pupillage.
Sterling Winshaw Solicitors is a community-based law firm based in North West London dealing with a number of traditional as well as specialist areas of law. In particular, we offer services in Litigation (Civil and Criminal), Landlord and Tenant, Family and Children, Welfare and Benefits, Immigration, Housing, Employment and Education Law. Whilst this concerns both public and private law, we are regularly instructed in public law matters such as on matters concerning Housing, Homelessness, and Child Proceedings. We have a team of highly experienced practitioners including Solicitors, Barristers, Paralegals, and Administrative Support and regularly appear before the Courts and Tribunals across London and the Home Counties. Community Cohesion is a very important part of the work conducted by us, and most of our team members provide assistance and advice to a number of local charities including family services, youth services, community associations, and faith groups. ‘Giving back to the Community’ is very important to us, which is why our team members regularly conduct work on a pro bono basis.
What We Are Looking For
Essentially, all candidates should have a minimum degree classification of a lower second class degree (2:2) in Law (or any other subject area provided this is supplemented with the relevant law conversion course). We shall also be looking for proven legal work experience which is not necessarily limited to mini-pupillages alone. The following broad criteria is what we are looking for in our prospective pupil. In summary, these are:
1. Intellectual Ability (academic achievement and practical understanding of the law through work experience)
2. Proven aptitude in oral advocacy
3. Personal and professional skills required of a Barrister
4. A clear desire for a career at the Bar
5. Candidates who share our ethos of community cohesion and pro bono work.

The committee will convene shortly after 31st July 2020, and prospective candidates will be contacted on or around 10th August 2020 inviting them for an interview. Interviews will take place on or around 24th August 2020.
N.B. In light of The Coronavirus, and as guided by The Bar Standards Board, all interviews / assessments will be conducted remotely via video conferencing / telephone. Candidates should therefore ensure they have access to a computer / smartphone on the day of the interview / assessment. Candidates will be required to be flexible around the interview / assessments.
